The 2025 season is here however our first group of clients will be arriving on September 13th this year. We'll have 3 archery elk hunters and 3 whitetail deer hunters. Been seeing a lot of deer and elk so far and some of the deer, especially the older bucks have been coming from their typical Summer bedding areas which is generally more open grassy, brush covered drainages that lay outside the riverbottom. Once the food sources start shrinking and the grasses die off they'll be moving into the riverbottom where there will be more cover and closer to the remaing food source(s). I noticed the bucks are hanging onto their velvet longer than normal this year.
The tree stand prep is complete and we did change a few things and set up some new spots. The elk have been pretty regular in 2 of the spots but with the hot weather it's been late or real early movement. The deer seem to be out earlier with a lot more does and fawns this year than last. The bigger bucks have been waiting until last light to come out into the open.
We set a new water trough on the mountain for elk and have been filling them a couple times a week to keep water in them. A few bears and a handful of bulls have been passing through along with good numbers of mule deer. Haven't seen a mountain lion yet which is usually a regular once a month there. The area is pretty dry, smoke has choked out the views of the mountains a couple days a week lately. There's a new pivot on one of the alfalfa fields and the elk have been hammering that. Although I haven't heard much bugling and that will change by next week. Looking forward to the clients showing up and getting this show on the road. Hoping for a good season with plenty of success!
