Chris Herbs 2008 September Archery Hunt

Well it was September 10, 2008, the fifth day of my hunt. I was hunting a stand that Keith and Bill had great confidence would produce a mature buck the first time in. We waited most of the week to get the right wind to hunt this stand and when we did it really paid off. Me and cameraman Steve Miller were dropped off at the stand early in the afternoon. It didn't take long for things to start happening. A few does came past on a trail 10-12 yards off to the right of the stand. We then had a doe and a nice 120" 8 pt. come down a trail to our left, but before he got into bow range the wind shifted and ended that opportunity. I felt a little bummed until Steve spotted more bucks crossing the river using the trail off to our right. The first buck was the biggest and I was prepared to shoot. When he was at 10 yards I stopped him and made the shot. The 10pt. made a small circle and dropped within sight, just on the other side of the river. The buck scored 124 3/8". I'd like to thank Keith and Bill for the work they put into these hunts. There were times when they went out in the middle of the night to put up new stands for hunters to give them the best chance for success. Thanks again guys, I had a great time.
